Currently Accepting New Clients. Trust, empathy and compassion are important in any relationship, and therapy is no different. I am a strengths-based, client centered therapist who believes that you are an expert on you. The relationship is one of the most important pieces of therapy. *Currently accepting new clients; Next day/some same day appointments available, evening and some Saturday appointments* I am a client centered therapist with experience working with children, adolescents, families, and adults. My goal is to collaborate with you to create a plan that fits your needs. I strive to create a therapeutic space that is safe, secure, and supportive to help encourage growth and change. As a therapist, I firmly believe that there is no such thing as a 'one-size fits all approach' - everyone deserves respect, compassion, and a therapy plan customized to their unique history and concerns.

Counselor, LMHC

I believe therapy should be individualized based on each person’s specific needs. My ultimate goal is to empower my clients to change what can be changed and to identify appropriate coping skills to what cannot be changed. I do this by creating a safe, client-centered therapeutic environment that allows the client to identify their individual goals. I believe each person is the ultimate expert in their own lives and I am there to assist them in achieving their personal goals.

Counselor, MA, LMHC

Do you experience significant emotional distress when being introduced to other people, being teased or criticized, being the center of attention, being watched while doing something, or meeting people of authority? Have you been told you are a perfectionist? Are you stuck at a job because you fear change or you believe you aren't good enough for something better? This list is certainly not a complete list but these feelings have all been associated with anxiety. Physiological symptoms also accompany social anxiety/anxiety and may include intense fear, racing heartbeat, turning red, and excessive sweating.
Erik Kohl

Counselor, MA, LMHC

I am currently taking new clients in Grinnell and Newton (office space in both towns). Next day appointments are often available and I can accommodate evening and some Saturday appointments. I utilize a client-centered approach to therapy and prefer to focus on strengths and solutions rather than dwelling on problems. I focus on the therapeutic relationship as the means of implementing change. As a clinician I take environmental, relational, and emotional factors in to account during treatment. My goal is to help you move forward with your life and equip you to manage your mental health on your own.
