I’m Taryn, a provisionally licensed Mental Health Counselor with a specialization in Art Therapy. I take a collaborative, client-centered approach to counseling, and like to encourage artmaking in session. Creating in session is not a requirement. However, using art materials in therapy offers a chance to actively process what we talk about, and engages the brain and body in our therapeutic work. My education and professional experience specifically equipped me to use artmaking in a safe, trauma-informed, culturally responsible, and affirming way. No experience with art is required, just a willingness to try something new!
Most of my experience involves working with adolescents and young adults, focused on concerns related to anxiety, depression, anger, identity, and trauma. While Art Therapy is central to my work, I use a variety of other theories and methods related to your goals and preferred therapeutic environment. Some of these theories include narrative therapy, CBT, motivational interviewing, and strengths-focused work. My hope is that by working and creating together, we can identify and reach your therapeutic goals.
