MSW, LISWI am a Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW), with over 10 years of experience in trauma-informed therapy and public health. My approach to therapy is eclectic, client-centered, collaborative, and is aimed at helping clients to better understand how their past experiences (be it from when they were 3 years old, or yesterday) are influencing their reactions and responses to situations in present day so that they can feel more empowered in their daily lives.
I have training in several therapeutic modalities, including Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) & Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). My work integrates various pieces of attachment theory, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, and Self-Compassion. Plus, I think a little humor can go a long way!
Prior to joining Red Couch Counseling, I worked in community mental health and a trauma-treatment program in Chicago for six years, specializing in complex trauma and survivors of violent crime. After returning to Iowa in 2016, I spent four years working in public health where I specialized in injury and violence prevention. My job as a therapist is not to rescue people, nor to tell them what to do. My role is to help someone gain a better understanding of themselves, to recognize and tap into the resources and protective factors they already have, to help develop skills to better tolerate (not distract from and deny) emotions, and to integrate all parts of themselves in order to live the life they want. Thank you for considering me for that journey!
